Overwhelm is something all too common in entrepreneurs. It’s almost like a right of passage it seems.

Have you felt it? I know I have.

Overwhelm isn’t something that we can avoid completely but it is something we can manage and move through without getting stuck.

Let’s chat about some strategies we can use to overcome overwhelm.

Plan ahead to overcome overwhelm

Are you in the middle of a major project or have one coming up? Take the time to plan it out. NOW!

Overwhelm happens most often when we don’t have an organized plan. Whether you use a blank sheet of paper, Trello, or a detailed project planner you just need to plan out all of the details.

Get started by asking yourself these questions:

  • What steps do I need to take to complete this project?
  • What is the deadline for this project?
  • How many hours per week do I have to dedicate to this project?
  • What do I need to say no to in order to meet this deadline?

Once you have your answers written out, break your tasks down by the day and week between now and your deadline. I talked about how I create my productive To-Do Lists here. Chip away at your project every day and you’ll quickly be able to look back and see how you didn’t just overcome overwhelm, but prevented it.

This one can be hard because we know how long our To-Do List is. The very idea of scheduling blank space into our calendar can feel overwhelming.

Our brains need a break. It’s like a computer and it needs to be turned off from time to time so it can work at peak efficiency and performance. Burnout is a real thing and it can lead to major health challenges, not just exhaustion.

Rest doesn’t look the same for everyone. Maybe its going for a walk, taking a nap, or stretching. What refreshes you? A hot bath is a standard go-to for me because it relaxes both my mind and body.

You can either choose to schedule it in now or be forced to rest for days or weeks later, at a time that is completely out of your control.

A support system is crucial for mental health and long-term success in business. We all need people we can turn to who will celebrate our wins with us, hold us accountable to our goals, and encourage us when we’re down.

Start connecting with people who have similar interests to you and you’ll start finding people you just click with. Before you know it, you’ll have your people and they’ll be able to keep you grounded and help you overcome overwhelm.

  1. I get overwhelmed a lot in my business, it’s just so busy all the time. That’s what happens when you become successful I guess but it’s hard to deal with some days. These are solid tips for managing overwhelm, planning ahead makes a huge difference!
