3 Bad Habits to Break Immediately

We all have bad habits.

How bad a habit really depends on what that habit is standing in the way of. 

Eating junk is standing in the way of your overall health.

Not putting things away is literally standing in the way of your productivity.

Let’s talk about 3 bad habits that we all must break immediately in order to achieve our greatest potential as entrepreneurs.

Just last week I hit the snooze button three days last week. Let me tell you, the effect was noticeable! The two days that I got up on time and completed my morning routine were FAR more productive than the three days I hit snooze. I had the perfect excuse. My youngest had trouble sleeping each of the preceding nights and ended up in bed with us. Having a 20 month old in bed with you is not terribly conducive to sleep, so I was “too tired” to get up on time.

Looking back, I would have been far more productive running on less sleep if I had done my morning routine. Why? Because when you win your morning, you win your day! The “small” win of getting up when your alarm goes off the first time sets the tone for your day. You literally check something off your list for the day by getting out of bed. If you struggle with this bad habit, it’s very likely that you need to be going to bed sooner. As a night owl, this is a constant struggle for me. I need to be up at 6:00am so I can peacefully complete my routine before my kids come out at 7:45am. You will often catch me still downstairs at 11:00pm. 

Try moving your bedtime earlier by just 15 minutes at a time every few days. You have an evening routine, even if it’s not intentional, that you need to adjust and that won’t successfully happen over night.

I struggle with this one a lot as a type-A people pleaser. I am currently working on this mindset big time and not just for personal development. I finally realized how much my desire for perfection was impacting my business. 

Perfectionism means moving slowly and overthinking pretty much everything. Both of these things will kill a business. It’s important to be intentional with your business and everything that you put out into the world. However, it’s also important to remember that we learn the most through failure.

In order to move your business forward, you must take action! Taking action almost always means taking risks which means you must let go of perfection.

As I mentioned above, moving our businesses forward means taking action. Taking action will almost always bug somebody, regardless of the action. You are not everyone’s cup of tea and that is a great thing!

If you are trying to please everyone, not only will your business stagnate, but you will blend in with the crowd. The online space is very crowded and one of the best ways to stand out is to not be ashamed to say who you don’t serve and what you don’t do.

It’s important to make our clients happy, within reason, but if someone isn’t paying you then their opinions don’t count. If they aren’t in your target audience, then don’t worry about them in the least.

Break free of the pressure to try to appease everyone and do business your way!
